Where is the U.S. heading?

All the news headlines of housing market issues, credit crunch, weakened dollar, possible recession, war in Iraq, issues with Iran and the list goes on.  I really wonder where the U.S. is heading these days.

All good business, life and sport coaches talk about goals and specific action plans to get there.  What are the goals of the U.S. and where do we see ourselves in 1, 5 or 10 years?  And ultimately where do we start to fix all these problems that are certainly interconnected?

Oliver Wendell Holmes once said "I find the great thing in this world is not so much where we stand as in what direction we are moving."

Where would you like to see the U.S. move to?  What do you think we need to do to "solve" some of these problems?  I don’t want to just complain about these issues any more but try to be part of the solution.

Where is the U.S. heading?
