Outsourcing – U.S. Passports

US passport First, I should say, I am a huge proponent of global business.  I think there are times when outsourcing makes sense but I am not sure I agree with the U.S. Government to outsourcing the production of U.S. Passports in Thailand.

In a recent Washington Times article, the issue of outsourcing the passport due to the current demand placed on domestic producers comes to light.

Our identification is critical for ease of travel throughout the world and if this is in any way compromised than the inconvenience and issues to each of us could be excessive.  I am not sure if that makes sense for the U.S.  Are there some things that we should never outsource?  Do I have the right to be picky about this?  If so, what are some items that you think should stay domestic?
