"Gateway" approach to international regional markets


gateway The choice of country or region to export to is a very strategic choice for your organization that has serious and long term consequences.  If you don’t make the right choice it can be very costly. 

An approach to regional market exports is the use of “gateway” countries.  These countries typically offer very receptive environments and are often used as a place to launch your business operations in to surrounding and similar countries/markets.

  • Hong Kong – > China
  • Australia – > New Zealand
  • Finland – > Russia
  • Turkey – > Central Asian Republics

These stepping stone countries will help you leverage contacts and knowledge to enter these larger markets.
